I was asked recently to perform a product shoot on opals and I jumped at the chance. I don’t regularly get to use my macro lens and white box, which is primarily designed for small product photography. These opals are from Lightning Ridge, New South Wales. for those of you who don’t know where that is, it’s about 800kms SW from the capital city Brisbane in Queensland and about a 9 hour journey. Lightning Ridge is well known for the mining of black opals and other gemstones and is also known to have the largest deposits in the world.
I hope you enjoy these macro images – they’ll have an interesting future ahead of them.
